- Chunderbox
- Late Night Recorder Session
- Cloppy
- Light Night
- Cretan Music Night
- Plomb
We made part of this in 2019 and early 2020, before the Covid pandemic hit, often taking inspiration from gigs we’d been to, then worked separately on a few things during the lockdowns. We met again in 2022 a few times to put the mix together.
It’s named after the way we usually end up making music: working Friday night, into Saturday and then late into Saturday night (with usually only a quick break or two for food!) It’s also the name of a record mentioned in ‘A Clockwork Orange’ which the girls in the record shop are listening to. Alex describes it as being, “moaned by two horrible yarbleless like eunuchs whose names I forget”.
All the material is our own, except from a small section we sampled from the album ’Speakers’ by Kevin Eldon, and consists heavily of field recordings we made from various places around the world over the last 4 years as well as some tapes recorded in around 1999 that Jungle Jim found in a box in late 2019.
FAQ
Q: My God, how long does this go on for?
A: 57 and a half minutes.
Q: And when do the drums come in?
A: After about 53 minutes.
Q: Why did you do this?
A: It kind of just fell out involuntarily.
Q: Who are all these disembodied voices?
A: If you know one of us then you’re most likely one of them.
Q: What’s that?
A: It’s for egg and spoon races.
Q: I wonder if I taste like a lambfruit?
A: You do. Delicious. Yum yum.
Q: Do you have a sizing chart?
A: We recommend all customers order extra medium for the best fit.
Q: This is making me feel unsettled/nauseous/afraid. Is this normal?
A: We found this to be a perfectly normal response in our test subjects. Try to remain calm. Any unpleasant feelings will eventually pass.

Chicken Rapture
Tracklist:
- Breathed
- Cavtat
- Jingemmel
- Ghost Locks
- Gwrandwch
- Citadel
- 9th Penguin
- BoyGirlRobot
- Blue Rose
Our second mix made from entirely self-composed material. Pretty much everything at 105 BPM with varying degrees of light and shade, from the divine to the monstrous.
The title came from the idea we had about placing speakers in the trees in Jungle’s garden and playing heavenly trumpet sounds through them. The plan being to convince the neighbours in the immediate vicinity that The Rapture had come.
In this case though, it’s The Rapture but with chickens, all ascending to meet their God, One-Eyed Jeff.
Little is actually known about One-Eyed Jeff. The only thing we do know about him is the small amount of information we can glean from an unattributable quote:
“If it hadn’t been for One-Eyed Jeff,
I’d be married, I wouldn’t be deaf.”
Anon
The exact circumstances of this situation remain unknown. All we know is that there was going to be a marriage, One-Eyed Jeff stopped it somehow, and the bride or groom was rendered deaf as a result of his intervention.

- System Restore
- Glitch
- 1nce a Belieber
- 275_132kV
- Curse These Metal Hands

Our first mix made from completely original material. Well, almost! There are 3 or 4 samples we’ve lifted from elsewhere, but the rest of the work is material we’ve created or recorded ourselves.
It was created over a 6 month period between 2016 and 2017. We first recorded 8 channels of various synths, samplers and drones, then wrote each of the 10 tunes (some together, some individually) and overdubbed them.

The result of two weekends spent mainly laughing at poo. An 84 BPM Hip hop mix, featuring ‘Unemployed Welshmen’ from Blue Jam by Chris Morris, Paddy Considine and Shane Meadows discussing poo euphemisms and scratching aplenty.
We had a live webcam broadcast on the 2nd session during which, while we were having some computer problems, we were texted some sound advice from my mate Heavy Chris to ‘turn it off and on again’. We did and it worked! Cheers Chris!

In places, this is probably the most twisted, unpleasant mix we’ve done. The original mix was done by Jungle Jim and then overdubbed by the both of us in one session.
A lot of the spoken stuff that’s featured on this mix was originally recorded for a dark comedy / sketch show we wrote called Shy Talk (much in the style of Blue Jam by Chris Morris) back in 1998. It never got used in the end as the radio station we were going to appear on (Storm FM, a local student radio station for Bangor, North Wales) never actually got a licence. We still have all the original material though. We actually have the finished shows too and will probably upload them at some point.
We’ve also started working on a video for this mix. It’s quite an ambitious project though, so it’s doubtful there’ll be anything finished until 2009. **EDIT** Yeah, this never actually got finished!

‘Best Breakfast in Chorlton’ is actually the claim made on the board of Revise Bar in Chorlton, Manchester. And how right they are too! There’s a food area there called Tom’s Kitchen which serves a mighty array of culinary delights, all cooked and served personally by Tom himself.
We went there on the Saturday after spending all of the Friday night before getting the mix together. As soon as we walked in and sat down, we heard ‘I Shot the Sheriff’ by Bob Marley playing. Jim proposed that ‘Tom’s Diner’ by Suzanne Vega would fit quite nicely over it. One marvellous breakfast later (honestly, you really need to try one!), we headed back to give it a try. Lo and behold, it sounded great! We thought it quite apt that we were in Tom’s Kitchen when the idea came about and so decided to call the mix ‘Best Breakfast in Chorlton’.
We’d like to dedicate the Suzanne Vega mix to Tom the Head Chef – his food’s sorted me out on many an occasion now!. This is the second entirely computer sequenced and beatmatched mix, but has more of a live mixed feel than Prawn of the Dead.

The last mix to be recorded live before the move to entirely computer-based sequencing. Recorded using 2 Technics 1210s, Ableton Live and 2 Technics SLDZ 1200s.
Named after a military-like operation involving an all round trip from Manchester to Sheffield (to watch Derren Brown), then to Leeds (to see The Herbaliser and pick the gear up) then back to Manchester again to record the mix. Gear was dismantled, shifted around, set up, tunes picked out and the whole thing recorded in less than 12 hours!
There is also a preponderance of train noise on the tape!

This mix was recorded live and probably took the longest time to prepare for (around 2 months!) We had 5 live inputs: turntables, mic, tape deck and 2 computers (one running Acid and the other Sound Forge) with the entire thing ‘sequenced’ on a bit of A4 paper! It took about 15 takes to get it right too!
On the final take though, around 15 minutes from the end, we had a kitchen fire. Our flatmate ran into the room crying that the kitchen was covered in flames. We went downstairs, put the still flaming grill pan out of the door and ran back to the room to carry on. If you listen carefully, there’s a good 5 minutes where nothing happens and it’s just the tune playing (which is quite rare!).
Other than this, the mix went very well: samples were on time (pretty much!) and it felt a shame to have to risk doing it again. The fire happened just before 10 to 10 (Cowboy Time!), hence the name ‘Tears Before Cowboy Time’!
